Rose Milk with Sabja/Tukmaria/Basil/Falooda seeds

Basil seeds aka Falooda seeds ~ I have never been familiar with these seeds until few summers back. To be precise, the summer that I got married. I was introduced to it by none other than my hubby. It was a Sunday, mid-Agni and we had booked movie tickets for a morning show. By the time we were back it was 12 in the noon and quite humid that we were sweating all over. We needed a drink and that is when the huss stopped by the soda factory that he has been visiting right from his school days. That was the first time that I had rose milk and I was given a large glassful of chilled rose milk with these seeds floating around. One mouthful and I really loved it and since then it has been soda factory rose milk whenever we pass that shop.

It was quite a summer this time with the mercury rising to 42C. And then there were showers, relieving showers. Just when I thought that the blazing summers had come to an end, it started again. Yes it is super hot in the morning and then we have cool showers in the evening. We needed cool, refreshing drinks to cope up with this two-faced weather and so I tried copy-cat-ing the soda factory rose milk for our brunch drink.

Cold Kesar Badam Dhoodh /Saffron Almond Milk

Almonds are one of the most nutritious of all nuts. There are lots of good things about these nuts that you can keep going on and on. They are low in saturated fats, a good source of Vitamin E, contain more magnesium than oatmeal or even spinach, a good source of calcium and hence recommended to women for osteoporosis etc. Wat did I say, the list is endless.

Chilled milk flavored with saffron and ground almonds...

During the initial days of my pregnancy, many asked me to increase my intake of nuts and when googled most of the sites recommended to have 5-6 badams / almonds every day. When I consulted on this with my doctor, even she suggested the same. If you're pregnant, almonds are a great source of the folic acid you need! Ever since I make it a point to grab some almonds every morning till date.

With the increasing temperatures in Chennai, yes.. its shivering cold in the early hours and slowly the sun creeps in and by mid-day its sweating hot. I am always making chilled evening drinks to cool myself and the family. So made some cool almond milk for our evening chill out time and it was a sure thirst quencher filled with wholesome goodness.

~*What U Need*~
Almonds / Badam - 20
Saffron - few strands
Milk - 3 cups
Sugar - 3 tbsp
Cardamom powder - a generous pinch

Cool cool Nutella Milkshake

I love Nutella, u love nutella, everyone loves nutella, anyone who knows nutella loves nutella. I am a nutella addict and I just love lick it out of the jar rather than smearing it on a slice of toast. Unlike me, 'A' is not a die hard fan of nutella but likes anything sweet. So the first time, I gave him nutella sandwich, I thought that he would love it and insist on having it anytime but to my surprise, he was not interested in having it frequently and he even restricted me from eating it. The reason... Calories. Oooof... him and his calorie consciousness. So poor me had to play 'nutella hide and seek'.. was not able to have it under his eyes. I started having a dessert spoonful of nutella whenever his back was turned.

This milkshake was whipped up when the huss asked for something cool, chocolate-y and refreshing. I had this shake in mind for a long time and when 'A' put down his proposal, I jumped at the opportunity. We had this over a game of UNO and it was pure bliss.

A completely addictive chiller that can be whipped up in minutes and which will take you to chocolate heaven

~*What U Need*~
Milk - 2 cups
Nutella - 5 tsp
Sugar - 1 tbsp
Vanilla Ice cream - 1+ 1 scoop
How I Made it:
Bring Nutella to room temperature. Blend all the ingredients except +1 scoop ice cream into a smooth and frothy mixture. Garnish the walls of a tall glass with chocolate syrup. Pour the mixture into the glass. Top it with the remaining vanilla ice cream. Sprinkle some chocolate shavings over it and serve immediately..

Yummy Nutella milkshake ready.

Coffee Milkshake... it's creamy

Hi guys,
Am back... Recovered somewat and getting used to the daily routine and now am back to blogging... I missed blogging a lot and am happy to be back... Hopefully I will be regular in the days to come.
I made this creamy and yummy coffee to beat the Chennai Agni weather... The rays of sun were unbearable and I always wanted my throat to be washed down with something cool.
I am addicted to coffee. Anything with coffee flavor draws me like a magnet. Rathna cafe 'Degree kaapi', CCDs 'Cold Coffee' are always my favorite. I love sipping a cup of hot coffee in the evenings along with 2 good day biscuits. But it was burning like a furnace outside and to gulp in something hot in the evenings had been crossed out of my list.

I had already tried cold coffee which was loved by everyone. Wanted to try something different when I remembered bookmarking a recipe from Kurryleaves. When I had all the ingredients available in my pantry, I was good to go. Mix, blend, pour, sip...

Its creamy, rich and filled with the aroma of coffee. A perfect chiller for coffee-holics like me.

~*What U Need*~
Milk - 3/4 cup
Instant coffee powder - 1 1/4 tsp
Condensed milk - 2 tbsp
Fresh cream - 1/4 cup
Sugar - 1 tbsp

How I Made it:
Boil milk in a pan. Remove from flame, add coffee powder, sugar and condensed milk and mix well. Allow to cool. Add fresh cream, mix well and refrigerate for 2 hours. When serving, whisk in a blender till frothy.

U know how the cravings vary and I only had one scoop out of the tub and then it was pushed to the far end of the freezer. I was totally surprised cos I who am a die hard fan of chocolate was avoiding it. But it has been a long time since I have taken in the fact that pregnancy changes a to z of ur life. And I have happily accepted it. Coming back to the tub that got pushed, it was the huss who was subjected to eat up the whole lot. I made this milkshake and served it chilled when I got an angry stare on serving a scoop of icecream.
